The Journey’s Begun

“Joseph also went up from Galilee…to the city of David which is called Bethlehem…”Luke 2:4

Sunday evening, our Children’s Choirs launched our Journey to Bethlehem. Excitement is building as we celebrate this most blessed time of the year. This weekend we’ll be thrilled by our Dinner Theater; then we’ll welcome the Christmas Visitor; followed by our Family Candlelight service and end the Season with a Casual Christmas at Canaan on the 25th.

Sunday was another exciting day at Canaan! Both services were full, the worship was wonderful and I sensed Christ’s Glory fall upon our celebration. I was moved to see most of our Church rise in commitment to be Great Commission Christians. I believe as we apply the message from Isaiah 49 we’ll see attendance in our Journey Groups grow; participation in our ministry and mission enterprises expand. Time is too short, the darkness too real and the Gospel too rich for us to sit idly on the sidelines.

Our Lottie Moon Week of Prayer for International Missions got off to a great start. I believe the message from Isaiah, God’s Desire for the Nations, stirred us. David Platt’s video challenged us and our IMB Missionaries, Jim and Brenda Brock inspired us Sunday evening. We got a great start as well on our Goal of $22,000.

We had an amazing Journey Launch Class this past Sunday. You’ll see below that 16 attended and many decisions were made for God’s Glory. I want to thank each participant for attending, I was blessed and feel sure that they were. We know that those who attend are more readily assimilated on the Journey and into the life of the Church. It’s exciting to report that six (6) people united with our Church through the class. They will soon be presented. Let me express my appreciation to Debbie Quinn for diligently calling our Candidate Members and many Opportunities as well as Gena and David Hudson for preparing a wonderful meal.

I can’t wait to see what God will do Sunday! Contact your class members and opportunities and invite them to join us! Your partner on the Journey,

Bro Morgan

Thankful

Thankful

“Thanks be unto God for His indescribable gift!” 2 Corinthians 9:15

The Apostle Paul reminds us that living with an attitude of gratitude makes our life richer and our outlook brighter. Paul’s focus in this passage was, of course, the Gospel. In reality, every blessing begins at the Cross, for the Child of God. Having plumbed the depths of Isaiah’s portrait of the Suffering Servant in Chapter 53, we are keenly aware of the magnitude of the Father’s love for us! This Thanksgiving, may we be mindful and grateful of every good gift that the Father bestows on us daily. They all flow from His indescribable gift!

This past Sunday was another amazing day for the Family of Families. It began Sunday morning with an intimate time as we gathered around the Table to celebrate the Lord’s Supper. Then, Sunday night, Heaven came down and glory filled our souls at our Community Thanksgiving Service! God’s House was full, the combined Canaan choirs brought the house down, and Bro Caddell stirred our hearts with his message about God’s indescribable gift. What a joy it was to gather in our renovated FLC to fellowship with God’s Family. I am certain that the Father smiled from Heaven as the brethren gathered to dwell in unity (Psalm 133:1). What a joy for us to again answer the prayer of Jesus in John 17 and show the world that we (the Church) are one! Our divided nation so desperately needs to see this picture of unity in Christ. Let me use this opportunity to thank everyone who worked so hard to make our Community Service such a stunning success.

Our proposed 2017 Budget of $931,034.70 was adopted Sunday morning in both services. It reflects a modest reduction of .37% from this year’s budget. We are grateful for the work of our Stewardship Committee. We should be reminded that the budget is simply a guide for the New Year. The budget is met weekly through the faithful tithes and offerings of God’s people. Thank you for your faithfulness.

I pray that you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. I’m looking forward to our Sunday services as we gather again in God’s House. Don’t forget our weekly prayer initiative for Spiritual Awakening, we’ll gather in the Church office at 8:15 till 8:30.

Your grateful partner in the Journey,

Bro Morgan

A Christian Citizen

A Christian Citizen

“Let ever soul be subject to the governing authorities, For there is no authority except from God…Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves” Romans 13:1-2

America’s slide into the moral abyss has shifted from a gradual drift to a prophetic freefall. The Church may have reached the apex of Her influence on our culture at the end of the twentieth century.                  Tragically, Christians in growing numbers have become distracted or apathetic and our influence has waned. However, our hope does not reside in the White House, Court House or State House. Our nation’s only hope lives in the homes of Christians and the House of God. “If My people…will humble themselves and pray…and turn from their wicked ways…then I will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 When God’s people are broken before Him the blessings of spiritual awakening will  follow.

Paul reminds us that we have a civic duty as Christian Citizens to be involved in the electoral process. Paul says to ignore this responsibility would bring judgement upon ourselves. Furthermore, Jesus in Matthew 5 compels us to season and light our culture.  I would be the first to admit that this presidential cycle has hit an all-time low and is repulsive to most! Today we need a candidate whom God could use to lead us out of this epic slide. However, we are left with two   candidates who have a legitimate shot to occupy the White House in January. So what is a Christian  Citizen to do?

While this thought is not original with me, I would remind you that we always vote for the lesser of two evils! Unless Jesus is on the ballot there is no candidate who is perfect. In our last presidential election 20-30 million Christians did not vote. Experts have concluded that their non-vote in effect elected our current president. I am grieved that many Christian leaders are again advocating a non-vote. I side with courageous leaders like Franklin Graham who are compelling Christians to go to the polls on election day.

We should vote for the candidates up and down the ballot that we hope will support Judea-Christian values. No one knows what a candidate will do once they are elected. So I’m voting for the  candidates who I believe will support the essential ideals of the Christian Faith – Those who are Prolife and will defend the unborn; those who will defend our religious freedom, and finally, those who will appoint   constitutional Supreme Court Justices. Certainly, there are secondary issues that we are passionate about as well. But we have a duty to our children & grandchildren to promote Christian values in our Nation.

Let’s all pray for
