We are glad to have Dr. Josh Cook here at Canaan serving as our Interim Pastor as we search for our next Lead Pastor. Dr. Cook works at the Birmingham Metro Baptist Association as a Church Revitalization Expert and we are thankful for his vision and passion for helping local churches in times of transition!
Pastor Chuck Dunning
Chuck, or as we all know him "Brother Chuck", is our Membership Care pastor and oversees our facilities and loves serving with our amazing Senior Adult ministry. Chuck and his wife Jame' have been serving Canaan for 10 amazing years which is almost their daughter Raely's entire life! Chuck grew up in Jacksonville Florida and then graduated from Baptist College of Florida where he met Jame' and then served in Dothan before moving here to Canaan! We are very lucky to have Chuck as he is extremely talented in administration and one of the kindest and most caring human beings on the planet.
Bro. David Inestroza
We are glad to have David as our fill-in Worship Pastor here at Canaan. He also serves as Hispanic Ministries Consultant for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions. Since 2007 he has led worship and served as part of the pastoral team in Baptist churches in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee.
Mrs. Shannon Shuford
We are so excited to have Shannon serving as our Children's Minister! Shannon and her husband, Jeff, have been married for 20 years and have two children, Lee and Anna. She serves in our Children’s Ministry part-time and is also a Special Education Teacher at Helena Elementary School. Shannon received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Samford University, a Master’s in Early Childhood Special Education from UAB, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Collaborative Special Education from The University of Alabama. Recently, she obtained an additional Master’s level certificate in Instructional Leadership from the University of Montevallo. Shannon’s vast knowledge of child development and her passion for building relationships with children and families while helping them grow in their faith makes her an excellent addition to our team!
Mrs. April Boyd
April officially joined our team as the administrative assistant in January 2024 after serving as a volunteer in the church office. She manages daily administrative tasks and supports the pastors in their roles. April and her husband, Mark, have been married for 28 years and have two beautiful daughters, Kaylee and Rylee. Mark and April have served in student ministry throughout their marriage and have a heart and passion for students. They currently serve on the Student Advisory Team and teach our students on Sunday mornings.
